Glasses –

Disposal/End of Life

Although we continue to reduce out waste generation as much as possible, it is only natural that waste accumulates. The proper disposal of these materials is an easy and impactfully step that you can take to champion sustainability in your life.

The guidance below should help you in understanding the end of life of many of the materials that you can buy from our store. While we have made every effort to ensure that the information below is correct, always check with your local authority/refuse provider on the correct end of life of these materials.

Visit mywaste.ie to learn more.

Old Glasses

Old glasses can be brought back to the store and we’ll donate them to The Lions Club.

We are proud ambassadors of the Lions Recycle for Sight programme. This worldwide initiative collects and distributes used glasses to individuals in third world countries. The inaccessibility of clear eyesight is often just another barrier in alleviating poverty. Many of the glasses donated through this programme can correct vision impairments such near-sightedness, far-sightedness, astigmatism etc. and improve peoples quality of life.

Spectacles should never be placed in the recycling bin.

Contact Lenses

Although lenses are constructed from materials that can be and often are recyclable, many local authorities and refuse groups do not currently have the infrastructure to do so. Correct disposal of contact lenses and their packaging materials is a vital role in playing our part as environmental stewards.

Contact lenses can be disposed of in the general waste bin, and should not be flushed down toilets or sinks.

Carboard packaging can be placed in the recycling bin, along with the contact lens blister pack (with the foil removed).

Glass Cleaning Solution

We offer a refill service on our large bottles of lens cleaning solutions. While we encourage you to use this service, bottles (one cleaned and dried) can be placed in the recycling bin when no longer needed.

Packaging

Paper based packaging, such as contact lens boxes, can be placed in the recycling bin. Plastic hardcover spectacle cases should be used before disposal, but if this is not possible, they should be placed in the general waste bin.

We have manufactured our carrier bags with robustness and sturdiness in mind, so we encourage you to re-use these bags as much as possible. We have specifically designed these bags to also be aesthetically appealing, so you can easily integrate these into your life.
